For Roman's Birthday we took the grandparents to the Natural History museum in Ann Arbor, then out to the Red Hawk for lunch. The kids loved the dinosaurs. Lance's favorite was the Wooly Mammoth and Roman's favorite was the stairs and ramps in front of the grad library. Heh.

Roman's birthday- Todd was out of town, and my mother-in-law was staying with us. She and I took the boys to pump-it-up, then dropped Lance at preschool. We then went straight to Toys R Us where Roman wore the crown and picked out a dinosaur and a Scooby Doo stuffed animal. After grabbing lunch at Salad Creations, we picked up Lance and headed home. Later that evening, we grabbed dinner and had cupcakes in ice cream cones at grandma and grandpa Michalski's. It was a great day. Happy 2nd birthday, Roman!

Today we went ice skating at Campus Martius park with our friends Eric, Chrissy and Aiden. Lance loved skating, and can't wait to do it again! Roman had a tougher time- after all he's not even 2 yet. His skates were too big as well, but they didn't have a smaller size. He skated around a little bit, but mostly liked the fountains and watching his brother skating around. Afterwards we went to Nemos for lunch.

We had a great Halloween! The weather was beautiful (even by Arizona standards- Vickie!! :)) And the boys enjoyed trick or treating. Uncle Moose bought some Schlitz beer and handed it out to the adults on the street. Heh! Lance got the great idea of pushing his hummer truck door-to-door instead of carrying a bag, and Roman HAD to carry his own bucket. That's the bit of his mommy in him! Lance and Roman both "won" pumpkins again this year in Ninos Pumpkin coloring Contest! We went to pick out the winning ones, and had a blast. It was cold, but they picked pumpkins pretty quickly and were very pleased with their selections!

Lance had a halloween party at his preschool. He was all dressed as the Road Runner, and he stood on a stage and told all the parents that he was the Road runner and that he was going to go trick or treating with his brother, Roman, who was going to be the coyote. Today the kids and I went with our friends Jessie and Kaylee, Arzu, Ethan and Lizzy, and Angie and Anthony and the baby (forgot his name) to a nursing home. There were a few others there too whom I didn't know. Reverse trick or treating is where we go door to door, but instead of getting candy, the kids give it away to the residents. The kids had a good time, and the residents enjoyed having the kids come through. Thanks for putting this all together Jessie!

Out Neighbors, the Mousseaus, gave us their giant wooden playset! We spent a few days disassembling it and moving it to our yard, but we took out time and had fun doing it. Today the boys and I took Grandma Claudia to Blakes. We picked apples, peppers, raspberries, and tomatoes. We rode a train, fed some farm animals, climbed a straw mountain and raced in the tricycle 500. I think Lance's favorite part of the day was when we went inside to eat donuts and drink cider. He wasn't nearly as interested in the food as he was the cider-making equipment. We couldn't drag him away!

Todd's Auntie Vickie and Uncle Guy live in Arizona, but they never stop thinking about us and our boys. Occasionally they will send books to the kids, and let me tell you, the books are all wonderful. They love getting the package in the mail- almost as much as they love the books themselves. They usually have their favorites- like the dinosaur one pictured here (Roman loves to roar along with it). One was about a boy dreaming of a car he would build- perfect!

Thank you so much, Auntie Vickie and Uncle Guy! You single-handedly boost our book collection to envious levels. The boys love them- and Todd and I love the variety!

Poor Roman! He fell off a chair (anyone who knows Roman knows this is a common occurrence). Oh, Roman fell again. But this time he's crying- a lot. As he walked toward me I saw the blood pouring out of his mouth. On further inspection he had almost bit completely through his tongue. It was crazy. I have never seen so much blood. It was a huge cut, but thankfully not completely through, so therefore not off. It has healed miraculously in a weeks time- and never seemed to bother him past the initial impact. Actually, he seems pretty happy to show it off. What trooper!

Great Lakes Steamers

The Great Lakes Steamers are a group of train aficionados that run their 1/8 scale trains ina park in Royal Oak. The tracks are a permanent addition to the park and have been there since the early 1980s. The first weekend of every month in the summer, they run the trains and allow people to ride on them for free, although they accept donations. We had a blast! The yellow one looked like a diesel, while the blue one, Lance's favorite, was a real steamie with a real firebox that the engineer shoveled coal into! It was awesome. We must have ridden at least 5 times!

Today we saw Olivia in a production of Beauty and the Beast. She did a fabulous job. She was a villager, a waiter, and a member of the mob. Lance really enjoyed the play. Afterwards, Auntie Becky asked Lance who his favorite character was. He thought for a minute, and replied "Olivia". Boy, isn't that the truth? Congrats, Olivia. Can't wait to watch you in the lead role. won't be long now!

For the first time in four years, Dad and I went golfing together. We drove all the way out to Howell to meet Uncle Ralph and Chuck for 18 holes. I didn't do too badly, for not golfing in four years. Dad golfed a great game. I was proud of my 2 pars, and never getting over a 10. I think this will have to be a more frequent event, and I need to buy myself a higher lofted club than a 9 iron. But hey, I drove farther than Chuck on at least one hole, and that's what counts. Now if I could only sink a put in less than three attempts...

We took the family up to the driving range today. We mean, Grandma, Grandpa, Lance Roman Mom, Dad and Uncle Moose. It was a blast. LANCE CODY! Well, maybe in a few years. We went to B dubs today with Mike and Liz Firestone, and we decided to let him try the NASCAR driving game. he sat on Mike's lap (so Mike could work the pedals) and Lance did 100% of the steering. How'd he do? 23rd out of 26. That's right, he didn't come in last. Lance Cody, not a bad race car driver name at all. Now whenever we go anywhere he asks "do they have a driving game there?" I think we created a monster.

Today the whole gang went to the fireworks in Clinton Township. They were fabulous! We got had a perfect spot- right in front (thanks to Grandpa Mike and Grandma Claudia), and Dziadzia and Bucia could even sit in the car if they got cold! We played a while on the grass, thenwatched the show. What a great time!

Farmington Hills had their fireworks on the first of July this year, so we made a day out of it! We went to Great Grandma Rose's house and had ribs, corn on the cob, potatoes, ham, cheese, cucumbers, grapes, baked beans... all sorts of great food! After relaxing on her porch swing, we headed to Founder's Park to catch the fireworks. With Grandma's handicapped pass, we got a prime parking spot, and a nice spot on the grass for our chairs and blanket- maybe 30 feet from the car! We horsed around a bit, then once the fireworks began we were in awe! They were spectacular! It didn't take long for us to get out of the park, but the boys were asleep before we got back to grandma Rose's house. Such a great night!

Stacy Zientarski has this new, cool, company called Darce. It is basically a house party where she brings in all these cool, reasonable priced, fashionable purses and sunglasses and sets them up. People can browse through and buy something if they like it. I had some of my mom's group over and made blueberry martinis! Special thanks to Megan and Hannah for watching all the kids who came in the basement. The moms who couldn't find sitters really appreciated it! Plus, you ladies look great in your new purse and sunglasses! We all had a great time, and the boys and I got some new shades! Check them out- they both think they are hot stuff...

Stoney Creek Metropark

My mom's group does a thing during the summer called "playground of the week", and this week was at stoney creek. We had a good time playing, then Megan and I decided to go for a bike ride. I towed the kids in the trailer. It was all downhill from there, or maybe uphill is more appropriate! I got a flat tire, so we stopped at the beach and filled it up. Then we got about half way around the 6 mile trail (it seemed like it was all uphill) and the sky turned pitch black, and the thunder was right on top of us. We turned around and got caught in the rain just before we made it to the beach again. My tire was flat again, but we waited out the storm, then high-tailed it back to winter cove where our car was. On the way home, Megan and I decided that no matter how miserable we were at the moment, we would laugh about it later. Are you laughing yet, Megan???

Uncle Moose joined us at story time today. It was a special story time, The Painted Pot was there, and we pained out own ceramic animals! Lance painted a hippo, and Roman painted the penguin, then they both painted a moose! The company will take the animals back to their shop to glaze and fire them. We will pick them up from Borders soon. Can't wait!

Hannah, Megan and I took the boys strawberry picking at Blakes. We got a TON. Lance loved picking them and eating them, Roman enjoyed dumping my basket and sticking his fingers through the strawberries. Then they ran through the dirt fields for awhile before heading back. Today was Todd's day, and he decided to start a new tradition- a "Father's Day Project". So, every year, the boys and todd will work on a project. He decided to start this year out with a biggie... a giant sandbox!!
